ABOUT US

With over 100 combined years performing and TEAchING across the world, sir james & lady galway want to share their love of the flute and offer students more ways to learn.

The Galway Flute Academy, established by Sir James & Lady Galway, is a combination of live and pre-recorded online material to help flute players of all ages and abilities develop their playing and ecnourage them to become the best that they can be. We’ve got content tailored for beginners through to more experienced players and performers.

Offering pre-recorded and live online classes, Q&As and other events allows us to reach and teach people across the world - allowing you to learn any time, anywhere. The Covid-19 pandemic saw a quicker transition into online teaching as our main way of engaging with students but has opened so many doors for the academy. As well as giving more people access to our teaching, our live classes and events are stored and available for students in different time zones to watch on demand without missing a single note! Affordable learning

We have always strived to deliver our teaching classes and festivals at the lowest price we can. We believe our experience and expertise allows us to provide teaching that is of a consistently world class level but at a fraction of the cost of private lessons and music academies. At the Galway Flute Academty you don’t simply learn from Sir James & Lady Galway but you learn with them. Over the years we have had the pleasure of working with thousands of students and have built up a learning community where we can all benefit and share in the joy of playing the flute and developing as players.

We have always believed in the importance of providing music education and creating ways for players across the world to learn how to play the flute. With our online teaching we are able to reach more people and give them opporunities to learn. We also offer scholarships and free content to help further support all flute players.

The Galway Flute Academy was founded and is run by Sir James & Lady Galway. Globally renowned as the supreme interpreter of the classical flute repertoire, Sir James is a consummate performer whose appeal transcends all musical boundaries. Lady Galway, an accomplished flutist who continues to grace the international platforms with her virtuosity. Our guest teachers

  • Gareth Davies

    After graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London GARETH DAVIES was appointed Principal Flute in the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and recorded the Nielsen concerto with the orchestra. He can be heard on many LSO Live recordings conducted by Valery Gergiev, as well as many film soundtracks including Star Wars and Harry Potter.

  • Kersten McCall

    KERSTEN McCALL, principal flutist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. McCall served as principal flautist of the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Saarbrücken, also having played as guest principal with the Berliner Philharmoniker, the New York Philharmonic and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

  • Ulla Miilmann

    In 1994 ULLA MIILMANN was appointed principal flutist at The Danish National Symphony Orchestra at the tender age of 22. Since then she has had an extensive career as a chamber musician, soloist and teacher. In 2017 she received The Carl Nielsen Life Time Achievement Award for her outstanding musicianship and contribution to the Danish music and cultural life for the past 25 years.

  • Nicola Mazzanti

    NICOLA MAZZANTI has served as Solo Piccolo of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra since 1988. He performs frequently as both a flute and piccolo soloist and in chamber ensembles in Italy and abroad. Mazzanti teaches piccolo at the Hochschule in Luzern, at the Conservatorio in Lugano (Switzerland) and since 2013 at the Conservatorio “Verdi” in Milano. He has released several solo CDs, including a Liebermann’s Piccolo Concerto.
